Thurber Writers' Cafe and Winter Writing Academy
Join us for our Spring Writers' Cafe for 4th-6th graders on February 8, 2009. The Winter Writing Academy is for students in Kindergarten through 8th grade and runs for six Saturdays starting at the end of January. Click on the heading for more information about these two programs.
Thurber
Summer Writing Camp
We offer a seven-week day camp filled with writing adventures for
grades two through nine. Our camp is filled with exciting field
trips, creative writing classes taught by professional writers
and teachers, and the chance to meet new friends. Camp is split
into one-week sessions by grade level and usually begins in mid-June.
Young Writers' Studio
This is a special writing workshop program for students in 9th through 12th grades. Students meet twice a month and share their writing with other students and special guest speakers.
Ghost Writing Workshops and Fable Writing Workshops (seasonal)
Fourth, fifth, and sixth graders are invited to participate in
our Ghost Writing Workshops in October, where they'll collaborate to create
a funny ghost story based on James Thurber's beloved tale "The Night the Ghost Got In." In February, fourth through sixth graders have the opportunity to participate in our Fable Writing Workshops where they'll learn about fables and in the end create their own. Both Workshops end with parties at Thurber Center.
Poetry Out Loud
Each year, Thurber House partners with the Ohio Arts Council and other organizations to put on the Poetry Out Loud recitation competition for students in 9th-12th grade. The winner moves on to compete at nationals in Washington, D.C.
